The 2 ICAANE drew some 500–600 participants and a rich set of presentations, which are here published in two volumes, organized in 7 sections. The first five sections are included in volume 1: (1) The Environment; (2) Images of Gods and Humans; (3) The Tell; (4) Excavation Reports and Summaries; and (5) Varia (Chronology, Technology, and Artifacts). The second volume comprises two sections, both on archaeology of the Islamic era: (6) Islamic Archaeology (General) and (7) Islamic Archaeology (Symposium), which is made up of the papers read at a special workshop on Islamic archaeology.

The 2 ICAANE drew some 500–600 participants and a rich set of presentations, which are here published in two volumes, organized in 7 sections. The first five sections are included in volume 1: (1) The Environment; (2) Images of Gods and Humans; (3) The Tell; (4) Excavation Reports and Summaries; and (5) Varia (Chronology, Technology, and Artifacts). The second volume comprises two sections, both on archaeology of the Islamic era: (6) Islamic Archaeology (General) and (7) Islamic Archaeology (Symposium), which is made up of the papers read at a special workshop on Islamic archaeology.

These two volumes, which may be purchased at a reduced price as a set, demonstrate the importance of the new organization that sponsors this biannual meeting. [The proceedings of the 3 ICAANE, held in Paris in the spring of 2002, will soon be in production as well.]
